O.k the first week of January is over and I have not given up on all my new years resolutions yet so this here is a bonus!

Oooo I love a Pop Up! - North Pole Bar

I love the idea of pop up stalls, venues and markets to change a space throughout the year.!
I mean in summer a beach randomly pops up in Manchester and I love, love loved drinking warm, spiced cider in the North Pole pop up bars around Christmas time last year.

Well it is that time again! The North Pole Pop up bar is back again and this year it is accompanied by a bratwurst, burger and corn on the cob place. Yum Yum!

Bonfire Night!

Being around children can make some things in life seem that bit more exhausting, messy, and hard. But for the most part being around them can make things exciting, special and a bit more of an event and I like that. I like the energy they bring to things, their enthusiasm, their curiousity and their innocence.

I really don't usually bother with bonfire night but these last few years I have been going to displays with my nieces and nephew and I kind of like this new tradition. It was nice being outside with our glow sticks, toffee apples and warm doughnuts - it's rare that we enjoy family time outdoors in the winter and I like that this occasion gives us an excuse to do it :-)

My niece made me laugh loads that night. After reciting welephants firework safety rules numerous times she was squealing with excitement all through the show. She got louder and louder as the display went on ending up with just plain screams lol.

Her: Weeeeeeee!

Me: LOL Hey! my poor ears I don't know who is louder you or the fireworks....

Her: Weeeeee! hehehe

After the show she stood silent for a moment deep in thought with a smile growing on a face.

Her: Hey Aunty Tash... Do you really think that I am louder than a firework? because that would be cool!

It came to my attention the other day when someone was talking with me about a quite pricey piece of cake that I was starting to loose all concept of what is reasonable and expensive in the cake stakes!

I justify paying more by talking myself through the cute places I go to and the lovely little names they give their cakes and because I like a good cake.

Well imagine my joy the other day when I stepped into Greggs and was tempted by one of their special halloween cupcakes.

Decorated with a marble frosting full of flavour, jelly sweets and some gooey drippy sweet syrup and a sponge so soft and moist I was tempted to eat the wrapper! All this for 65p! I couldn't believe it i would usually pay three times that price!

I used to long for a the push pop lollies when I was a kid... Mum did not oblige!

But now I am a proper grown up (well kind of) I can stuff myself with sugar without adult consent!

I ordered some of these cupcake push pops the other day - I went with vanilla sponge, strawberry icing, glitter and pink crystals with pink ribbons (not girly at all)

They were delicious and my friends in my team all loved them! I think it's dangerous that one of the pupils at school owns this cupcake business -especially when they taste so good.

These midi skater dresses are lovely and thick for the winter, come in a range of colours and only cost £15! Bargain!

They are quite flattering and smart and I got lots of compliments from the adults and children.

One child at work said to me "you look beautiful today miss" and in in true sheep like fashion they all joined in telling me I looked lovely, that they loved the dress, that it was gorgeous and that I was a Princess.

I love them for that and had to really stop myself from doing a spin, a fake catwalk strut and a curtsy! :-)

A Little Bit Of Old School....

There has always been an old school, independent cinema that is not too far from my house and I have always planned to go there but never made it.

The other week all of that changed, the two screen, friendly and cosy little place was the only place left showing the "One Day" movie and I wanted to go. I also wanted to avoid the big multiplexes with their over priced popcorn (of which I can't say no to) their stupidly high ticket prices and their smootching dating couples (unfortunately there is no getting rid of the latter wherever you go)

It was lovely! I wish I had gone sooner! Firstly I actually got an old school ticket when I paid from a funny little contraption that a friendly man gave me behind a booth. I also got change from a fiver- Now that is a rarity! I want to say that the man who served me wore a little bow tie but I could be taking things too far and making that up so don't quote me on that one lol. One thing that was for sure was that they had a little tuck shop of sweets and popcorn and it somehow felt a little more special that a whole room of pick a mix that you don't know how long has been there. Bags of sweets also had prices on them so I would also be free of that panicked feeling one gets when they put the pick a mix on the scale and hope it doesn't cost ten pounds!

The screen was quite small, a little bit cosy even with a definite vintage feel- Check out the orange chairs and the carpet - it screams classic cinema. You also get the excitement of the opening of that very dramatic curtain (although I did miss that because I was getting snacks :-/)

It felt lovely and romantic seeing the film there - it's a perfect Sunday afternoon cinema and I hope it's here to enjoy for years to come as there was some sad talk of it being turned into a pub - like we need any more of them ho hum :-(

Bringing Sexy Back... or Not!

Last year I did a chair workout class and enjoyed it so when the opportunity came up for me to do it again I jumped at it. Carrie Bradshaw always searched for the perfect man in SATC but some of us have to search for the perfect body at the same time and that too is trial and error.
This time it wasn't quite the same, the place was packed, I arrived there straight after a 10 hour day and women were taking it all too seriously.
I wasn't feeling like I was doing any exercise or toning and I started to dislike it...
The biggest thing I worked out was this I ain't to sexy and parading around with a feather bower whilst trying to do some exercise did not do me any favours lol.

I don't like conflict and there a lot of things that some people don't even see as issues that would worry me in my la la head - I don't think it makes me a door mat I just think it makes me well.... me!

Today I stuck up for myself in the most unexpected way, it felt a little awkward but I am glad that I did it.

Sometimes with family and friends it can be hard to say what you really feel, when people are set in their ways and used to acting in a certain way it's hard to rock the boat but today I had had enough. I tried not to use too much jest as that can sometimes mask the message and I let them know how i felt in a fair and honest way. I know they didn't take it as a personal attack but I hope it stays with them and they actually think about what they do next time... because if I see it happening again I will pull them up again and with more conviction!

This is something I plan to do more in the future... sometimes (often because my head is not in sync with my mouth)I don't say what I really think and feel to avoid awkward moments but some conflicts are bigger in you're own head.

Bring On The Twist Free Hair Wash Day

I have been back at work (school) for 7 weeks now and we have had about 2 episodes of head lice that I have know of so far.

Every time I think about them I itch my head. I Can't wait to take my hair out this weekend and give it a good washing. I used to think that Afro hair could not possibly get head lice but that is a myth, it is less likely but it is definitely possible Ahh!

I do want to have my hair out for a few weeks but with these re occurrences of the head lice and the upcoming dark winter mornings I don't think I can do it. :-/ I will however look forward to using my new product that Lindsey brought over for me next week. I have heard good things about Shea Moisture Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie and I can't wait to Show you my results.

Stocking Up for Winter!

I love coloured tights. Patterned ones can often make my already big legs look bigger shock horror but a pop of colour can add a little pop to a dull day.
At the moment I am loving my maroon pair that feel wonderfully festive, but this weekend I went bold and sported rusty orange tights whilst running my errands.

I felt a little bright but maybe that was because I had too much leg on show maybe next time I will wear boots rather than pumps with it.

A Weekend In The Lake District

Last weekend my girls and I packed our pjs, wine, snacks and every magazine going and headed to the Lake district for a a big slumber party.

It rained but it was still relatively warm and despite the rain we were still able to get out and see the sights. We also had to make it out for food too, you realise how much of a city girl you are when you are driving nearly ten miles for a take away.

You also realise you're a city girl when a field mouse nearly scares you half to death and makes you want to leave the idyllic country life behind. The lodge was lovely apart from our little friend. It's funny how quickly somewhere can feel like your home - I felt very comfortable there, watching x factor, playing UNO, having big debates over film plots hehe.

We attempted a country walk, but we did miss good old pavements and with those hills we were gasping within minutes... I think I need to up my exercise drastically :-/ But the scenery was gorgeous and the air felt lovely. So fresh and cool.

Need another break soon and luckily for me it's nearly holiday time yippee - love a getaway even within the UK.

Ok I don't know how or when I realised this but I love Dot Cotton's style and our wardrobes are looking freakishly similar these days. She has the classic pieces going on and some key pieces for Autumn/Winter 2011.

1. The Fur Trimmed Coat

I have seen one I am coveting and must make a part of my wardrobe a full fur makes me look a little like Yogi Bear.

2. The Cardigan
She has them in array of colours (like my good self)I love wrapping up in a cardigan... what doesn't go with a cardigan I add one to whatever outfit I am wearing.

3. The Tea Dress
She has lots of cute shirt dresses and tea dresses, there was a mustard polka dot number she wore the other night that would have looked lovely on me.

4. The Classic Mac
A real staple for all seasons really, I have a few in different colours.. because I am greed like that but I must say one of my favourites is one with a full circle skirt like the one Dot where's below lol.

5. The Dressing Gown
As soon as September hit I was looking for my new Christmas Dressing Gown because that is how sad I am lol. So It is not a key fashion piece but I don't know where I would be without my dressing gown.
I put my fave dressing gown in the wash this weekend and actually had to give myself a good talking to. " It's ok, it will be dry soon," I reassured myself "You won't have to wear the other one for long and this one is still fluffy." Yes I was slightly ashamed of myself. I know my old housemate had this dressing gown love too - It is instant comfort - I love my dressing gown and I am proud.

A long dramatic pause in blog land.... and actually no amazing reason for it at all :-/

There was a low point in my life round about the time of my last post where my internet would come on sporadically. I got into a big huff and changed providers thinking it would only take a few days... that's what they had told me anyway.

On the day my my new internet due to come on they told me there had been some mistake at their end and I would have to wait 6 weeks to be connected to the world.

Yea i brought a dongle, but it's just not the same I felt limited and as a result I became out of sync!

But now the time has come to get my lazy techno- deprived, blogging self back.

One Day

I knew it had a lot of hype, rave book reviews with everyone talking about how amazing it was and then I heard a movie was coming and that I admit did make me a bit sceptical.

But I hate seeing the movie when I haven't read the book as the movie is NEVER as good so I knew I had to get it read!

It took me one day to devour it, I practically gulped it down... (well one and a half actually as i woke up in the middle of the night and proceeded to read it then)
I had a galaxy bar, white kinder bueno and copious amounts of tea and fruity drinks beside me so really I was all set for a day in bed. So I sat and I read and I laughed and I sighed, I swore and cursed the characters whilst slamming the book down:-/ ( lol I am such an over dramatic reader)
I smiled and "Hmmmed" and I "oooed" and cried (despite being quite a tough nut grrr) and I actually thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it!

It was just sooo easy, like you knew them so well gosh they were my friends... I would find myself saying " suck it up Emma" and "Stop being a knob Dex" and "Come on you can do this mate" to thin air but I love a book like that.

You can see how and why they would it lend itself to a good film although I am scared after all of the bad Anne Hathaway reviews. I do like Anne as an actress and I understand they need a big name for the hood but gosh are there no English accents out there? I am glad they did not choose Kiera Knightly but from the snippet of the trailer I watched Anne hasn't got a Yorkshire accent down at all- I think it's pretty hard to play a Northerner although so many Southerners are convinced they have it down in jest.

I read on to see that he had written a one of the series of "Cold Feet" no wonder I liked him... I loved Cold Feet I have the entire series on box set on DVD. I also read that he did a television of Tess Of the D'Urbervilles - the Thomas Hardy booked I loved one summer of my teens- I can't believe I would have missed that but I have just seen that I was in New York at the time ho hum.

No the book "One Day" won't change your life... I have not come across that book that will in my lifetime. But if you like love, and the development of relationships, friendships and just life without it being too cheesy and unrealistic I would give it a go x

Holiday Hair!

Last week three naturals went on there first holiday with their natural hair!

I must admit I was a little bit scared about what I was going to do with my hair, I haven't had it out that long and I am still getting to know it. I was worried about what the beach, the humidity and heat and my laziness would do to it.

But I think It turned out ok....

I loved every minute of it and so did my hair!

Loving Pencil skirts at the moment and HnM seem to have loads in a variety of lengths, colours and patterns. They are just soo easy to wear with a tshirt or a vest and in autumn and winter put a thick pair of tights underneath and you are rocking!
As the short ones (below) are only £3.99 each I haven't felt so guilty buying them in abundance :-/ they are classics and a bargain. But I do have to keep telling myself I don't need them all.

An Ode To NYC

Saw this video on Urban Bush Babes and although I love the original and the Corrine Bailey Rae version much more I like this version as the video reminded me of my old home and old love NYC. (I will post Corrine's version later on in the post)

I was sometimes feel I am starting to forget about the little things but I would feature all of these things in my guide to NYC too.

I loved the strand book store even though I really didn't have too much money to buy books - I didn't let that stop me. I had to commute when I was over there and I was forever riding the subway so I always had my book and an ipod.

This video also reminded me about bannana pudding - (the creamy cakey gooey mixture she is eating out of the tub) soooo much better than the cupcakes. I was a Crumbs cupcake kind of girl.

Although I was the poorest I will ever be, missing my friends and family back home and in the biggest city I will probrably ever live in.... I was totally in love with New York, I was sooo happy and felt like I had a taste of how life could or should be!

Other things I would put on my NYC guide would be......

Brooklyn...

Loved me some Fort Greene and Park Slope infact I loved most of Brooklyn - The gigs I saw there, the parks, the spirit, the shops the men. For a while I took a sewing class in a lil corner of Brooklyn at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning. I loved walking down the streets watching them wake up, the smoothest, tastiest flavoured coffee from a tiny, family run independent with the best bread and pastries ever and watching young families toddle off for bike rides and stories at the local library.

Brownstones...

Ohh how I loved searching for my big old dream house with gorgeous huge steps, beautiful stone and a big old window that I could hang a brightly coloured window box on.

Coffee Vendors...
Yea there are a billion Coffee shops and starbucks but I loved my lil coffee vendor man, he knew my name, where I was from - how I liked my coffee and pushed me over the edge when I was deliberating about whether to have a huge bow tie doughnut breakfast.

(I didn't really need much pushing I am a fatty)

The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
I still get woozy thinking about one of the times I went there and I thought I had this place completely to myself. I floated around in my own little world just thinking and laughing and talking to myself and then I heard this beautiful singing - gosh it was soo surreal - a lady was practising some songs as she wondered around thinking she was alone too. It was breathe taking and I am not a crier but I just ended up just sitting, looking out at the rose garden and weeping lol. I wanted to get married there in another lifetime.

Greenwich Village
This was one of my fave areas especially at night. This was the home of my fave bars, my fave slices, my fave falafel.

Cake Places (like any)
I was forever on the hunt for cake. As I mentioned before my favourite cupcake place was Crumbs- lol where ever I was in NYC I think I always knew where my nearest hnm and crumbs were lol. I would frequent the cupcakery, sunshine bakery, humming bird, magnolia, cake man raven and the deli's and restaurants around my workplace... I would take a billion subways and tread a good few blocks to find a good cake. My red velvet addiction got quite serious at one point *she shivers*

Cheese
I swear the cheese was soo yummy and different. I think my fave was harvarti. Harvarti and avocado were added to most of my sandwich combinations - ohh my goodness no wonder I ballooned out lol!

Brunch
Isn't that what weekends are made for? I miss catching up with my friends over brunch I don't think you could get a bad brunch. I would usually go for a omelette, pancake or French toast option and on some sundays my aunt would take me to a downtown diner in Jersey that would look just like the ones in the movies with 1950's chrome shininess, leather booths and duke boxes on the table. It was a real family place, everyone was soo friendly and they made the best cinnamon french toast yum yum.

Ever since I saw this in a post the other day I have been dreaming about floral boots.

I Went To See Marawa The Amazing!

I got my friends and I tickets to the Exotica show - Marawa the Amazing's one woman performance that combined circus skills, dance, skating and hula hooping! I loved everything about it!

She wore some gorgeous outfits - some sexy all in one jumpsuits, amazing leopard print sets and the most amazing sparkly, green high heeled roller skates. Below are the red version.

Her hair was beautiful I loved the simplicity of her changes in one scene she swept her masses of curls into a side bun and pined flowers in the side to perform a Josephine Baker dance. One of my own personal highlights was when a hair dryer dangled from the sky and she skated around the stage to disco music pretending to dry her hair and picking out her beautiful curls with an afro comb.
I loved all her props, she had this amazing rope thing and a bright scarf that she did poi style tricks with. I also enjoyed the little touches like picture slide shows in the background, great music, free biscuits with sparkly sugar which she gave out in between acts and the gorgeous balloons that we just had to take half way across London and into a few bars because they were shiny and heart shaped!

I took a few quick vid on my phone - excuse my wild screams- she lived up to her name and was AMAZING!

Lessons From The Little One's

I'm enjoying have my niece stay with me at the moment - she is teaching me things everyday and making me smile!

Lesson 1: Sing like no one's listening, dance like no one's watching

My niece singing - she makes up songs to her Mario games, sings some songs in an awful french accent and often sounds like a warped dying animal but there is something about listening to her sing like no one is watching especially when she thinks know one is watching!

Lesson 2: Chilling Out with out a care in the world (tbh I think I had this one down already)

Watching kids movies in bed ahh bliss - we have to have cinema sweet popcorn - none of that toffee mess and we go from the classics like Annie, to the comical Diary of a Wimpy Kid and utterly cheesy girly pretty, sparkly cutesy boy meets girl ones. Kids no how too chill out.

Lesson 3:Embracing Adventure

I took my niece swinging through the trees in a jungle park the other day and despite her melodrama and comments that she "might die" she showed real determination and peserverence -I was too scared to do the 2hr tree top obstacle course - although I think I got away with saying I was staying off to watch and guide for their health and safety :-/ My adventures need to be a little closer to the ground thanks

Lesson 4: Pride In Your Achievements

We went to a gorgeous working Farm the other day, where there were different activities every half and hour. Some of them easier and less frightening than others. The one that threw them all off scent was..... washing the pigs! " Ewww yuk, yuk, yuk! What do you mean you have to go in the pig pen, what if they get me, what if they are muddy, can they eat me?" Only the youngest of the three on the trip managed to do it and boy was he proud!

Lesson 5: The urge to win!

Wow I forgot how adults can develop CBA syndrome as they get older - Children want to win, they fight for the cause and cry when they don't lol.

Lesson 6: Family are annoying but you've got to love them anyway!

Watching my nieces and nephew follow each other around like sheep is priceless. They look up to the eldest of the pack like she is an idol and often she acts that way to give the masses what they want. Don't get me wrong they can argue and bicker and sometimes they leave the little boy out because he is not allowed to be involved in princess games but they are forever looking out for each other, sharing hugs and making sure there are enough snacks for everybody.

It melted my heart the other day when my nephew could not find them in hide and seek.
"Please come back" he said after what I call 2 minutes of searching but he calls 2 hrs " I love you and I'm missing you now" awww bless him!

Earlier on I posted my baldy photos. Something that is now easier to do as my hair has finnally grown back to it's length before all that relaxer mess. Thanks Goodness. I will NEVER EVER RELAX MY HAIR AGAIN!

Last week I took my hair out of twists out and have left it out for the first time in over a year. I knew it needed a cut so I went to the hairdressers -one I had recommended for natural hair.
I had my hair treated, blown and cut and after the cut my hair was left at shoulder length yay!!!!!

Going to have to do a photo montage of the journey so far.

I WAS BALD!!!!!

It was New York 2009, I was away from home and needed to keep up with relaxers and treatments whilst I was away. I was weary of hairdressers even in the UK -I only let a few hairdressers loose on my hair and my aunt had just gone from shoulder length to teeny weeny afro length because of an incident with a hairdresser breaking off all of her relaxer!

My aunt was devastated at her hair loss at first but she embraced her natural hair with twists and after each take down, her hair was given a treatment and set back in it's twists. Her hair was growing back beautifully- and as she lived near me in New York she was sooo great and took me for treatments and relaxers with the hairdresser that had saved her scalp.

Now I am not knocking the hairdresser, I think she was good at plaits and braids and blowing but to be honest I don't think she had many qualifications and she was definately not a stylist but also I don't think my hair and scalp liked relaxer :-/

I usually wore my hair in the same style - I usually had a fringe, I would stick a big piece in it and tie it up on the top of my head making it as big and as messy as possible. I loved the messy look and I loved volume!

One day - on my maybe 3rd or 4th relaxer with this girl - IT WENT HORRIBLY WRONG! Long and short of it was I came out scalped with my scalp burning and itching like mad. I was soo upset- infact that is an understatement. There was nothing I could do and I knew it would grow back but that didn't help. I piled a piece on my hair big enough to cover the back and went on about my business.

Unfortunately I am stupid I still got my hair relaxed again after that but it was in October 2009 on a holiday to Portugal with my friends that I realised I was utterly unhappy with the state of my hair and that I would never relax it again.

Gosh it is hard putting these baldy pics of me online but these are the realities of relaxer and the misuse of it from Hairdressers HAS AWFUL EFFECTS.

It's that time again!
I didn't knit any last year but I really enjoyed doing them the year before! (Gosh I hope I can remember how to cast on! )
There are patterns and instructions on how to knit on both the AGE UK and Innocent websites. You simply knit a little hat. In winter the hats are put on the innocent drinks that go on sale in supermarkets nationwide. For each hat knitted, innocent donates money to Age UK to make winter warmer for older people!

That's plenty of time to get started :-)

I Went To See Marques Toliver! (Delayed reaction it was a few weeks ago)

Ok I am going to have to sack my photographer but on second thoughts she did manage to get us both in shot so maybe I should than her instead - thanks Cassan.

So I went to see Marques Toliver the other night and he was breath taking - I knew I would have to see him live from the moment I first saw him. I love seeing people live it adds soo much... you appreciate them soo much more and hopefully you being their let's them know that they are appreciated!

He feels the music somewhere deep inside him - I actually believe it is in his veins - it's litterally oozing out of him, even when he stops you feel like something is going round in his head others don't know about. He used so many different instruments to create an almost magical sound, some of which I had never seen in my life! and soo simply but so strong he used his feet to add percussion, stomping soo hard I could feel it in my heart ... it really gave a bass line to some of the tracks I wouldn't have even thought of underlaying a beat too.

He was a really sweet guy, soo friendly, modest and down to earth too. In my geeky way I had to stop and chat to him like a nervous and excitable teen. His speaking voice is almost melodic, up and down like someone who performs spoken word. With some delays and drawn out words and a lil twang that would accompany one raised eyebrow lol. OK I am rabbiting on now... so I am going to link to a couple of his videos. I have one or two on my phone but it's just sooo loud because i was right up front... i need to work out how to play with levels and balance that shizzle out... hmmm

This is him performing two of of my fave songs, the first featuring his strong foot and an instrument I do not know the name off lol. If you are London way you can see him at Tabernacle on September 13th - it is a school night so I can't go booo!

I am prone to watching a bit of trashy TV, and single ladies is filling a gap at the moment. It's soo contrived and false and glamourous and try hard but I can't help watching it and am developing an unhealthy obsession of Stacey Dash because of it. I loved her from her Mo Money (love that film) and Clueless days (hmm loved that film too) and then when she popped back up in the Kanye West "All falls down" video, my then fave song just got even better. How is she maintaining such hotness! Why is she NOT aging!

Went to watch Bridesmaids last night and loved it!
I think I am hard to please were Comedies and Chick Flicks are concerned but it was just the right balance of dry wit, awkward and embarrasing moments, pure stupidity and gooeyness.
I even heard some of the most masculine of men (which isn't that masculine as we are in manccy town) saying they couldn't help laughing during this when they thought they would hate it.

It's definitely worth a watch and who knew I knew almost all the words to the Wilson Phillips song I had to refrain from standing up to belt out the words and clapping in true karaoke fashion. I am definitely singing this when we get our next private karaoke pod in a few weeks lol.

I love, love, love this series. I have watched some episodes over and over again. It's smart, funny, well shot, well edited and soo real! I feel like I have written this post before because I have sent links to this show to friends singing it's praises.
The producer is soo talented and at the moment has put out an appeal to gain some more funds to keep the series going. I can't believe she was making this alongside a full time job and using her own funds it's soo amazing!
I also love the raps the character performs - I can't lie one of them is my ring tone :-/ absolutely hilarious!

I loved, loved, loved this dress from Joy but I couldn't deny the fact that it was far too short for me :-( Sadly I couldn't just let it sit in my wardrobe until I got my hot legs so I had to return it.

But then....happy days! These two gorgeous little babies arrived on my doorstep yesterday. Looking very cute! and I got the 2 for the price of the one JOY dress! Ohh I love a good sale!

This one was one of my options too but it seems to be made for an elf or a woman with considerably less back flab t hen me.

Gosh this video makes me want to skate sooo badly!!!! I could give the Lucozade a miss but the video and the tricks and done beautifully. I actually live ten minutes walk from a roller skating rink. I used to go to there Friday night roller disco all the time and I can still remember my neon pink and black Roller skates to the rust around the lace rings- I still have their carry case(*she types with a glazed look on her face*)

I also have fond memories of my sister roller skating, and afternoons of just racing from one end of the garden to another with my walkman in my pocket. I used to have competitions with myself and prepare little performances that were never actually shown to anyone apart from my invisible audience, but then I grew up and Mum and Dad went and got a conservatory so my dreams ended. Well that is a slight over exaggeration - my escapades with skates never ended completely I did have a roller skating party a few years back and I have visited the skating rink the past couple of holidays to take my niece to their sessions)

But now with my ever ongoing hunt for thighs (i know they are buried somewhere underneath this flab) with my nature of being a jack of all trades and a master of none, with my love of old school games and sports - i.e hula hooping and skipping AND my sheer excitement at being able to one day combine hooping and roller skating to get seriously fast sustained spinning I think i may have to delve into my inner, young self and get my skate on!

I have contacted the local womens skating team to see if they can help me out with my quest - they actually are a "roller derby " team which seems like hardcore rugby on skates with a lot of pushing and shoving and I am a little bit scared of them but I am quite excited all the same especially as I have already been looking at gorgeous skates I can get lol.

But I can't afford to do anything until after Glasto, but ohh to spend the summer holidays skating and get a gorgeous pair of these for my birthday - hmmm why am I asking for the SAME birthday present 21 years later :-/ lol

What A Week!

This week was such a good and random week - Mostly because I got to see Black Star AKA Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It was amazing! Would have posted a video but I was jumping around whilst I was recording :-/

I only found about the gig at the last minute. I was a little bit gutted when I got home and realised my "Brown Skin Lady" tshirts were in my washing basket grrrrr! I was also a little saddened by the fact that they didn't actually sing brown skin lady. But still it was a night I will treasure forever! I never imagined that I would ever see these two reconnecting and I have been wanting to see Talib for sooo long ahhhh. The DJ spinned some sweet hip hop on the night - Tribe called Quest, Brand Nubian, Biggie, Slick Rick and Pete Rock to name but a few! It all seems like a dream!

So I returned to hooping after bowing out for a few weeks, then I was dancing and pinching myself at the gig and ended the week jumping around in an underground indie club at 3am dancing to the jam and Stone Roses- Love it :-)

Sia literally takes my breath away her music is beautifully sad and soothing. I do feel like this song is my funeral song - how sad is that but I don't even mean that in a morbid way -grr listen to her you will understand ( I hope - or I will just sound crazy-

I have to be careful as to when and if I listen to her music as the tears get ready to fall within the first few bars. It took me about a year ( I am lying it was actually 2 years lol) before I was actually able to play "Breathe Me" in full without feeling like i wanted to sob my heart out. I think that was also because I associated it with the final episode of 6 feet under, which I can't even get started talking about as I am still scarred by that episode.

As I jump from fat club to fat club and my weight goes all over the place but often no where near it should i pick up lil hints and tips from fellow fatties that are inspirational.

Last week one woman reminded me about the power of having a dress in your wardrobe that you want to wear and look hot in - yes that old chestnut.

This my friend is it... Well it is not exactly it but it's very close.

My dress is the same colour but much longer, this one below would not cover my modesty.

I love "Get Me Bodied" it's still one of my favourites on my ipod but I am loving this remix she has produced as part of Michelle Obama's campaign to get the kids of America moving.

Polly Pro Love and Gail's Damn Amazingness

A few weeks ago I spend an amazing weekend at the Manchester Hoop Congress- which will now be an annual thing for me as long as it runs it was INCREDIBLE!
Teachers from all over the world with a ton of skills that were actually way over my head came performed, taught, played and inspired us. On the saturday night there was a showcase of talent and an LED hoop ball (which was actually my first and felt a little surreal).

Whilst I was there I brought a Poly pro hoop which is a lighter material which helps you to do faster and more amazing tricks with less bruising. My Polypro is going to be copper to compliment my twins which are gold. (I will take a picture when I get them this week)

I purchased them from Gail who was my teacher and an inspiration. If you ever feel the urge to get a hoop which I would definitely recommend... I would get one or as many as you can from Gail at Hoopspin... Next on my wish list is a hot sparkly pink hoop yummy yummy.

I really, really, really want to get into errrm skipping. I love skipping chants, group skipping, independent skipping, turning the rope and everything. In the autumn I was thinking up new rhymes for my playground and encouraging children to skip in the hope that I could start a skipping club (my enthusiasm did die down with the weather).

When I was researching my potential skipping club I found allsorts! There is soo much more that you can do with a rope!

I also am very aware that I cannot do half of these moves even without the rope.

P.S I wrote this post a few weeks ago and have now learned that JHud used skipping to help her loose her 5 stone!
and worst of all the school I work in have hired a full skipping workshop package and are having a skipathon and I am not allowed to go booooo!
